Free West African Drum & Dance Classes

Free Community West African Drum & Dance Classes Learn traditional rhythms and dances from Guinea West Africa with Whitney & Fode of Duniya Drum and Dance. This is a fun welcoming environment to learn a new art form. Classes are open to all ages and all levels. Children 12 and under must to be accompanied by an adult.

-Drum class will introduce students to the djembe. Practice basic hand technique, patterns and timing while learning traditional rhythms and the cultural background. Drums will be provided on a first come first serve basis.

-Dance class begins with a short warm up, steps will then be broken down and put to live drumming. Dancers of all experience levels can participate. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle.

Classes are drop-in but students are encouraged to come regularly. The 13 week session will culminate in a presentation and community gathering for friends and family.

Open Level West African Dance w/ Sana


Join Alhassane "Sana" Bangoura from Guinea, West Africa for his Saturday dance class. Sana is a gentle, patient and experienced teacher who breaks down the music and movements so that dancers of all experience levels can participate in this dynamic dance form. Sana shares the name, purpose and ethnic group of each dance. All classes are accompanied by live drumming by Sana's talented brother, nephew and friends. The Bangoura Family is eager to share its rich culture with you!
